La caída del Sol

“Everyone who loved me and kept giving me shit until the very last minute is gone now.” (Memories of Underdevelopment, 1965).
Emigration and the identity conflicts associated with it have been recurring themes in Cuban cinema. The work presents a selection of scenes in which the sky dominates the landscape. Each represents a different moment of migration, yet they share similar perspectives on Cuba, accompanied by excerpts from the films’ scripts. By removing these images from the films they belong to and bringing them together in the same space, the same theme emerges at different moments. The films change, the years change, the problem persists.
