Neither Too Far, Nor Too Close…

The work inhabits that in-between space where distance ceases to be merely geographical and becomes emotional. A small Antonov An-2 biplane, a replica of the one used by a Cuban pilot to flee the island, hangs in the air as a small gesture against a larger history. The sky, a constant presence in the Cuban migratory imagination, appears here as an ambiguous territory: both refuge and border. Through scale, lightness, and the silence of suspended flight, the installation explores the condition of those who live between departure and return, asking how much of us remains behind when we try to leave.
